Bank statement import

Import bank statements – without bank access

Don’t want to type in transactions, but don’t want to link your bank either? With FinanceCounter Premium you import bank statements as files. Analysis runs locally, and only what you confirm is imported.

At a glance

  • No direct bank access
  • No PIN, no TAN, no PSD2
  • CSV, PDF (up to 50 pages) or up to 4 images
  • Preview with duplicate and conflict filter
  • Premium feature

The essentials first

  • No direct bank access: FinanceCounter never connects to your bank.
  • You choose the file yourself via the Android file picker.
  • No PIN, no TAN, no online banking credentials.
  • No PSD2 or open banking interface.
  • The import only starts when you trigger it.
  • You review detected transactions before they are imported.

How the import works

  1. Download a statementSave a bank statement or transaction export as CSV or PDF from your online banking.
  2. Select the fileOpen the import in FinanceCounter and pick the file; for CSV you map the columns once.
  3. Review the previewGo through the detected transactions, filter duplicates and conflicts, then confirm the import.

Supported formats

  • CSV files up to 16 MiB, with column mapping for date, amount and reference
  • PDF statements up to 50 pages and 20 MiB – read from the text layer first, scanned PDFs via on-device text recognition
  • Up to four images (JPEG or PNG), such as photos of a paper statement

Formats such as CAMT, MT940 or Excel are not currently supported. Many banks do, however, offer a CSV export of transactions.

What happens to the file

The original file stays where it is. FinanceCounter works with a temporary copy in app storage, which is deleted when the import finishes or is cancelled. Only the transactions you confirm are stored permanently, plus technical check values so the same statement is not imported twice. If you want to keep the statement itself, store it in the documents area.

FAQ

Common questions

Is my bank account connected?

No. FinanceCounter does not access your bank account, uses no open banking or PSD2 interface and has no bank connection. If you like, you pick a bank statement yourself as a file (Premium); it is analysed locally and only what you confirm is imported.

Do I have to enter my online banking PIN or TAN?

No, never. FinanceCounter never asks for online banking credentials, PINs or TANs. The optional app PIN is something else: it only protects access to the app on your device.

How does the bank statement import work?

The import is a Premium feature. You pick a CSV file (with column mapping), a PDF (up to 50 pages) or up to four images via the Android file picker. FinanceCounter reads the transactions locally, flags possible duplicates and shows a preview. Only what you confirm is imported.

Does FinanceCounter support online banking?

No, deliberately not. There are no transfers, no account retrieval and no connection to banks. If you don’t want to type in transactions, Premium lets you import a bank statement file.
